An Owl and Two Bears Named to Canada's Elite Team

Two Atlantic Sun student-athletes and a head coach have been named to Softball Canada's Elite Team in an announcment the organization made earlier this week.

Kennesaw State's Cambria McKay, Mercer's Katie Rosentreter and Bears head coach Toni Foti will join the Elite Team when they participate in the Ontario Tour, a mini series versus the Michigan Ice of the women's professional fastpitch league before finally culminating with the 2006 Canda Cup to be held July 1-9.

The team will play together for the first time as Canada's Elite Team in a mini tour in southern Ontario versus Team Canada in a two game series on June 18th in Milverton‚ Ontario and June 19th in Guelph‚ Ontario.

McKay, a native of Brampton, Ontario, is an all-American catcher for the Owls and was voted Preseason All-Atlantic Sun. McKay‚ who is a lifetime .300 hitter in college‚ is the all-time leader in home runs for Kennesaw State‚ holding the single-season mark of 20; she has hit 57 homers during her career.

Rosentreter (Winnipeg, Manitoba) ranks first all-time in numerous categories at Mercer. She holds the top spot for wins (61), shutouts (18) and strikeouts (684). She has been named to the Atlantic Sun All-Tournament Team twice, earned a spot on the 2003 A-Sun All-Freshman team and was selected to two A-Sun All-Preseason teams.

Coach Foti is in his fifth season as head coach of the Mercer. The 2003 A-Sun Coach of the Year has led the Bears to two back-to-back conference tournaments. Foti has also coached in the Canada Cup for four consecutive seasons, from 1992-1995.
