MACON, Ga. – In a battle of the Atlantic Sun Conference's first and second place teams, the Mercer softball squad split with league-leading Stetson. Both games featured pitching duels, as the Hatters took the first game 2-0, and the Bears took the nightcap 1-0.
Stetson (32-10, 7-1 A-Sun) got on the board first in game one when Mercer starter Katie Rosentreter got into a jam in the fourth. With the bases loaded and no outs, Rosentreter surrendered a run on a sacrifice fly. She settled down and struck out the rest of the side.
The Hatters added an insurance run for their starter, Erica Demers, in the sixth. Lindsay Wightman drove in a run with a hard hit single to second base.
Mercer (20-20, 6-2 A-Sun) put runners on base in all but one inning, but the Bears struggled moving them over. Jamie Madruga doubled in the sixth, but Mercer was unable to move her over. Sarah Harding leadoff the seventh with a single, but Demers answered for Stetson and retired the side for the win.
