JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 16, 2009) - University of North Florida Athletic Director Lee Moon announced today that Men's Basketball Head Coach Matt Kilcullen will step down from that position to take on a new role in the administration of the UNF Athletics Department.
"Matt will be very helpful to us as we complete the move to Division I," Moon said. "He has a wealth of experience and we need to tap into that for the benefit of the entire Athletics Department. I'd like to thank Matt for all his hard work on and off the court over the last decade and I am looking forward to working with him in his new role."
Kilcullen has been with UNF since the 1999-2000 season.
Moon said he will begin the search for a new head coach for the men's basketball team quickly. "With our transition from Division II to Division I nearly complete, this is an opportunity to bring in someone with new energy to build the fan base and get us to championships," Moon said.
The Ospreys play in the Atlantic Sun Conference. This fall, the Ospreys will be eligible for championship play on the NCAA Division I level. Moon said he is working with UNF President John Delaney to address several issues including academic standards and funding for the Athletics Department.
