MACON, Ga. - Tom Melville has resigned from his position as head coach of the Mercer men's soccer team as announced by athletics director Bobby Pope.
In 13 seasons at the helm of the Bears, Melville registered a 107-126-16 record while leading the squad to nine berths in the A-Sun Tournament, three Atlantic Sun regular season championships (2000-02) and a pair of triumphs at the A-Sun Tournament (1999, 2001).
In 1999, Mercer hosted a NCAA Tournament play-in game under Melville's guidance, but came up short falling 3-0 to Rhode Island. Two years later, the Bears earned their first berth in the NCAA Tournament in program history and were edged 1-0 by Kentucky.
Melville is currently the all-time wins leader at Mercer and sports a 181-183-31 mark in 21 overall seasons as a head coach. During his time at Mercer, he has groomed two A-Sun Players of the Year, a trio of A-Sun Freshman of the Year, 15 first team all-conference selections, 21 second team all-conference members, 10 all-freshman award winners, 22 all-tournament honorees, a pair of A-Sun Tournament MVPs and has twice been named the Atlantic Sun Coach of the Year (1999, 2002).
"Tom has done a very good job," said Pope. “He's taken us to the NCAAs, won conference championships. I wish him well."
