JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Aug. 1, 2006) - University of North Florida Director of Athletics Dr. Richard Gropper announced status changes today for both UNF golf coach Scott Schroeder and director of athletics media relations Tom Strother.
The interim title has been lifted from Schroeder's position and he has been hired as the full-time men's golf coach at UNF. Strother meanwhile, has been promoted to an assistant athletic director for media relations.
"Both of these status changes are well deserved," Gropper said. "Scott has done a tremendous job leading the men's golf team since taking over in the spring, while Tom has been a valuable member of our leadership team in the athletics department."
Schroeder - a former golfer and assistant coach at UNF - returned to his alma mater before the beginning of the spring semester, leading the team to six top-10 finishes, including a second-place finish at the Atlantic Sun Championship.
"I am very excited about this opportunity," Schroeder said. "I am thankful for the commitment that the university has made to me, and look forward to leading the team back to a conference championship and the NCAA finals."
Strother is entering his third year at the helm of UNF's media relations office. Under his guidance the office's budget and staff have grown every year and the UNF Athletics Department's stature and image have continued to grow with the media and in the community. During his time at UNF Strother has overseen the development of a new athletics website, helped broker a radio deal to broadcast men's and women's basketball and baseball, coordinated UNF's media relations effort at the 2005 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship and served as assistant media coordinator for the first and second round games of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship in Jacksonville during the spring of 2006.
