Nashville, Tenn. Amy Tudor will begin her inaugural season at the helm of the Belmont University softball program in 2006 as announced by Athletics Director Mike Strickland.
I am excited to be here, Tudor said. I am looking forward to the challenge of improving the program athletically and academically. Belmont is a great school which promotes its student-athletes to succeed in the classroom and on the field.
Tudor joins the Bruins after a two-year stint at Ohio Wesleyan where she guided the Battling Bishops to their second straight North Coast Athletic Conference title in 2005. Her OWU team finished with a 22-14 record and went on the host the conference tournament.
We are excited to have Amy join us, said Strickland. Her experience as a Division I player and her successful coaching record gives us great encouragement about the direction of the program. We are confident she will be a successful coach here at Belmont.
Prior to OWU, Tudor served as a graduate assistant at the University of North Alabama for two years.
A 2002 graduate of Western Kentucky, she served as captain of the team for three years. As a catcher, Tudor set a school record in 2002 by throwing out 23 runners attempting to steal. Her 216 putouts that year still ranks eighth on the WKU season record list. Over her career as a Hilltopper, she threw out 28 runners, second-best all-time with the program, and she still ranks third with a career .967 fielding percentage.
A native of Petersburg, Tenn., Tudor lettered in both softball and basketball at Cornersville High. She earned All-District honors three times and was an All-Region and All-State selection. Tudor had her No. 9 jersey retired at Cornersville in 1998.
