A-Sun Hosts second SAAC Meeting of '08-09
|

MACON, Ga. - The Atlantic Sun Conference hosted its winter Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Meeting in Atlanta on Jan. 23-24. Representatives from all 11 A-Sun institutions participated in the gathering held at the Westin Atlanta Airport.
For the first time ever, SAAC members and administrative liaisons participated in a Leadership Seminar conducted by Sarah MacInnis, Assistant Director of Training and Facilitating at the NCAA. Thirty-two student-athletes and administrative liaisons participated in the seminar.
Later in the day, the student-athletes conducted business relating to the roles of the conference and campus SAAC and discussed ways to increase communication within the group throughout the year. The 2009 NCAA National Student Development Conference and the NCAA Sportsmanship Initiative were also discussed. Members reviewed their annual fundraising competition and noted that all funds raised will be donated to a local charity of that campus’ choice. The winner of the competition will be announced in May.
The group voted unanimously to change the A-Sun SAAC Constitution so that all officers will now be elected each year after the second in-person meeting is held in January. The SAAC agreed that each A-Sun campus will participate in "National Student-Athlete Day" on April 6, 2009, and discussed activities planned on each campus. The next SAAC Meeting will be held on September 25 - 26, 2009, and will be hosted by the Atlantic Sun Conference in Atlanta at the Westin Atlanta Airport.
The Atlantic Sun Conference is an 11-member league committed to Building Winners for Life, with a focus on academic and athletic integrity and a balance between the two for the student-athlete, and maintaining a high level of sportsmanship.
