MACON, Ga. – Five Atlantic Sun Conference softball student-athletes were named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region teams this week. Kennesaw State’s Sharon Swanson and FGCU’s Courtney Platt earned second team honors in the South Region, while Jacksonville’s Sarah Sigrest and Olivia Kline received recognition in the Southeast Region along with USC Upstate’s Morgan Childers.

All five players also appeared on the A-Sun All-Conference team with Sigrest picking up the Pitcher of the Year honor and Platt being tabbed the Player of the Year. Platt led the conference in batting average (.387), slugging % (.679), on-base % (.576) and runs scored (45), while Sigrest’s 1.01 ERA ranks fifth in the nation and her 26 wins marks a JU single-season record.

Swanson’s 64 hits, 49 RBI and 14 homers all top the A-Sun charts, while Childers 29 wins also lay claim to most in the A-Sun. Kline, a utility player, ranked sixth in the conference in wins (15) and fifth in ERA (1.50), while also batting .333 with 26 RBI.

A total of 259 players from 127 different institutions comprise this season’s regional teams, including first and second teams for each region. The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.
