KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Belmont men's basketball head coach Rick Byrd has been named the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 3 Coach of the Year, as selected by his peers.

Byrd, who led Belmont to a 30-5 record and the program's fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in the last six years, was also named Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year for the second time earlier this month.

On Jan. 5, the 30-year coaching veteran joined Mike Krzyzewski, Jim Boeheim, Jim Calhoun and Dave Bike as one of only five active head coaches in NCAA Division I men's basketball with 500 or more career victories at his current institution. Three weeks later, Byrd became the 12th active head coach in NCAA Division I men's basketball to record 600 career victories.
