Belmont Draws UCLA in NCAA Tournament

Sunday, March 12, 2006

Fifteenth-seeded Atlantic Sun Champion Belmont will pack their bags and head to San Diego to face second-seeded UCLA in the first round of the NCAA Championship.

Belmont is led by A-Sun Tournament Most Valuable Player Justin Hare and a senior core that is just two years removed from upsetting #23 Missouri and reaching the NIT. This marks the second straight year and third time in five years that an A-Sun school has received a 15th seed.

The Bruins are making their first NCAA Tournament appearance just 10 years after playing their final games as a member of the NAIA. Belmont's offensive attack has been one of the most potent in the nation all season. The Bruins rank sixth nationally in scoring (81.8 ppg) while shooting an even .500 from the floor for the season and .381 from beyond the three-point line.

The Atlantic Sun representative is looking for their first tourney victory since 11th-seeded Georgia State upset sixth-seeded Wisconsin in 2001.
