MACON, Ga. – In the week seven of the NSCAA Men's Soccer South Region Poll, three Atlantic Sun Conference teams saw their names in the weekly poll with FGCU (10-2-2, 6-0) at No. 6, ETSU (9-4-0, 4-2) at No. 8 and Mercer (7-4-1, 2-3) at No. 10. The three A-Sun teams in the poll are the most in region ranking so far this season.
The Eagles remained in sixth place, while ETSU bounced back into the poll after falling out of last week’s rankings, while the Bears appeared in the ranking for the first time this season. FGCU and ETSU went 2-0 on the week, while Mercer posted a 1-1 weekend with the only loss coming to the Eagles. Stetson, who was in the poll last week, dropped from the poll this week, but were one of three teams to receive votes.
In total, five teams from the A-Sun have appeared in the rankings so far this season as Jacksonville earned an eighth-place ranking in week two of the poll, while ETSU has appeared in three of the past four polls. The Eagles have been in the poll for six weeks and reached as high as fifth in the opening week of the poll for their victory at then-ranked No. 13 USF.
Two weeks remain in the conference schedule as FGCU hosts Florida Atlantic and Stetson, while ETSU faces Belmont and Lipscomb. The Bears square off against UNF and Jacksonville on Thursday and Saturday.
In association with National Cancer Awareness Month, the Atlantic Sun Conference men’s soccer programs have partnered with the Coaches vs. Cancer Foundation. In the five A-Sun men’s soccer contests played on Thursday and Friday, all players competing will be wearing pink armbands and tape, while the coaches will be showing support by wearing pink polo shirts on the sidelines.
