ETSU's Williams Named Athlete of the Week

Macon, Ga. -- ETSU's Daniel Williams (Knoxville, Tenn.) was named A-Sun Athlete of the Week today by the conference office.

The junior pole vaulter shattered the ETSU record with a career-best jump of 15 feet, nine inches in his hometown at the Knoxville Invitational. He previously tied the school record of 15 feet, five inches at the Atlantic Sun Championships in April.

Williams is the second Bucanneer to earn men's Athlete of the Week honors this season. Teammate James Rainer has earned the award three times. Williams is majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies.

The Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the 2006 outdoor track season.

The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
