2009 Men's Tennis Championship Match Ups Start

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The 2009 Atlantic Sun Men's Tennis Championship kicked off Thursday afternoon with matches at ETSU and Milligan College. Three teams advance to the semifinals on Friday at the Buddy Hartsell Courts at ETSU.
#3 Belmont 4, #6 Mercer 0
Belmont came out strong and did not stop until they took four from Mercer. The No. 3 doubles team of Fausto Rocha and Renato Antun started the Bruins out right by taking down Justin Wimpee and Victor Dias. Rocha also put up a point in singles with teammates Joao Paoliello and Felipe Cirne Lima.
#2 Stetson 4, #7 Lipscomb 0
The second-seeded Hatters took their first step towards a championship title by sweeping Lipscomb, 4-0. First-Team All-Conference player Filip Kricka defeated Bison Joe McArdle (6-1, 6-1) to put another notch in Stetson’s win column. He and partner Mark Mestan also helped earn the doubles point by knocking off the duo of James Murrell and Chad Pierron.
#5 Campbell 4, #4 Jacksonville 3
In the first upset of the tournament, during the last match of the day, Campbell beat Jacksonville, 4-3. Jacksonville started strong by taking the doubles point with victories from Jaime Esteban/Victor Vaz and Jordi Ballester/Marcos Oliveira. Campbell took control by winning the No. 5, No. 3 and No. 1 singles. The match point came from No. 4 singles player Beto Mondini when he over took Jacksonville's Jimmy Esteban.
Stetson faces Belmont tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. and the top-seeded Buccaneers take on the No. 5 Campbell Camels at 2:00 p.m. All matches will take place at ETSU.
