MACON, Ga. - The 63rd-ranked Stetson Hatters opened conference play last weekend with a 7-0 shutout of rival FGCU. Junior Mark Mestan notched a pair of victories in the match, including a straight-sets triumph at the number two position. On Wednesday, Mestan earned the first Player of the Week honor of his career the conference office announced.

Mestan was Stetson's most dominant performer in a 7-0 sweep of FGCU in the A-Sun opener for both schools Saturday at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. Mestan first teamed with freshman Maksim Levanovich to beat Rafael Costa and Edson Lima 8-3 at No. 3 doubles and then rolled over Thibaud Aime 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles to help lead the 63rd-ranked Hatters to their 18th consecutive home victory.

Looking to avenge a narrow 4-3 loss that included a momentum-turning straight-set loss at No. 2 singles by Tori, he posted an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles with partner Renzo Airaldi over Brandon Byrd and Walker Lyons to help the Spartans sweep the doubles point ... Then he posted a dramatic three-set win at No. 4 singles over Calum Gee, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, to finish off the 6-1 win.
