Johnson City, Tenn. - Not to be outdone by the Lady Bucs, the top-seeded ETSU
men cruised to a 4-0 win over No. 5 seed Jacksonville and advanced to the Men's
Championship Match.
ETSU's Enrique Olivares and Sebastian Serrano took out
Victor Vaz and Jordi Ballester 8-2 in No. 2 doubles. Daniel Isaza and Lisandro
Picardo won No. 3 doubles for the Bucs, beating Marcos Oliveira and Vinicius Craviero
8-3.
Alex Ahlgren of ETSU was the first singles player off the court, tallying
a 6-0, 6-1 win over Belmont's Vinicius Craveiro. It didn't take much longer for
ETSU to clinch the semifinals match. ETSU's Enrique Olivares knocked off Francisco
Riveroll in No. 2 singles, 6-2. 6-4, and Sebastian Serrano eased past Victor Vaz
6-1, 6-0.
In the final match of the day, No. 2 seed Stetson beat Belmont, 4-0, to advance to the General Shale Brick Men's Tennis Championship Final.
The men's and women's finals both contain the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds.
The
final score was 4-0, but that hardly tells the tale of this match. The three singles
matches that did not finish were all in the middle of third sets. Joey Jones of
Stetson clinched the match for the Hatters with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Ignacio
Gesto. A-Sun Player of the Year, Stetson's Hicham Laalej, knocked off Alex Gillott
in a heated match 6-3, 6-4. Danai Stamp was victorious in the other singles match
decided. Stetson's Stamp zoomed past Zach Zola 6-3, 6-0.
Stetson's Marcus
Echtler and Filip Kricka took No. 1 doubles, 8-6, over Fausto Rocha and Javier
Rodriguez of Belmont. Hicham Laalej and Peter Dzuba beat Felipe Abreu and Zach
Zola, 8-3, to capture the doubles point.
No. 2 Stetson will meet No. 1 ETSU
in Sunday's Championship match at 1:00 p.m
