The ETSU men’s tennis team upset 31st-ranked Middle Tennessee State University today in the biggest win in Buccaneer tennis history. Battling through a match lasting four hours, the Bucs overcame the Raiders 4-2 in the Racquet Club of Murfreesboro.
Head coach Yaser Zaatini says he is very excited about today’s win and is looking forward to more great things to come. “My level of proudness is unbelievable, I am extremely excited, we have a great group of guys and they fought really hard,” said Zaatini.
The Bucs took an early lead claiming the doubles point and had the edge leading into singles play. Lisandro Picardo (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) and Felix Insaurralde (Asuncion, Paraguay) fell to the No. 16 ranked team of Marco Born and Andreas Siljestrom 8-6 in the No. 1 position, while Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) picked up a win over Richard and Rocafort 8-5 in the No. 3 position. Travis Sandlant (Werribee, Australia) and Alex Ahlgren (Tyreso, Sweden) clinched the doubles point for the Bucs with a close 9-7 victory over Pailiello and Boiron in the No. 2 position.
