Stetson Meets USF in NCAA First Round Match

Macon, Ga. - 2009 Atlantic Sun Champion Stetson travels to face No. 15 USF in a first round match up in the NCAA Tournament at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at USF Soccer Stadium.

Stetson finished the regular season ranked 11th in the nation in scoring offense averaging 2.0 goals per game. The Hatters enter the NCAA tournament boasting the 10th best won-lost-tied percentage in the country. Frist-Team All-Atlantic Sun performer, Griffin Gilstrap ranks in the national Top 30 in both points per game (29th, 1.37) and goals per game (27th, 0.58). Fellow senior and Frist-Team All-Atlantic Sun performer, Kevin Munz ranks in the top 16 nationally in assists per game dishing out 0.53 assists per contest. The Hatters boast three players with 16 or more points on the season led by Gilstrap with 26, Munz sits with 22 points entering the NCAA tournament and Fredrik Brustad with six goals and four assists (16 points). No player on USF has 16 points or more on the year.

Although the Bulls have played Stetson during the regular season 28 times prior to Thursday - with USF holding a 23-4-1 all-time record - this will mark just the second meeting all-time in the NCAA Tournament between the two schools. The Bulls handed the Hatters a 3-0 loss on Nov. 18, 2005 at the USF Soccer Stadium, in the schools’ only NCAA Tournament meeting. USF has not lost at home since Sept. 21, 2007 falling to No. 2 UConn, 2-1 and the Bulls have not lost to an unranked squad  at the USF Soccer Stadium since Rutgers knocked them off on Sept. 30, 2006, 1-0.
