FGCU’s Koshko and Jacksonville’s Sanchez Earn Honors
|

MACON, Ga. - FGCU’s Jonathan Kosko earned A-Sun Player of the Week Honors with two game-winning goals over the weekend while Jacksonville’s Joey Sanchez did not allow a goal in 135 minutes in two wins for the Dolphins.
Koshko, a junior defender, led the Eagles to a 2-0 record last week, including defeating Campbell on Saturday to hand the Camels their first conference loss in almost two years. With the win the Eagles jumped into the top spot in the A-Sun standings. In the Eagles 2-1 win against Mercer, the New Port Richey, Fla. native got an open look from 30 yards out and took advantage of both time and space given to him and sent a well-struck ball into the back of the net to score the eventual game winner for FGCU. In the Eagles 4-0 shutout of Campbell, The business and marketing major once again stepped up and knocked in the game-winner, this time off of a penalty kick.
Sanchez, senior goalkeeper, helped the Dolphins to consecutive shutout victories against USC Upstate and ETSU. Sanchez, a Huston native, made six stops in the win against the Spartans and recorded two saves against ETSU in his final home start of the season. Currently enrolled in Jacksonville’s master’s of Business program, Sanchez returned the best goal-against average from the A-Sun a season ago.
