MACON, Ga. - Stetson’s Fredrik Brustad scored both of the Hatters goals on the weekend, while Ted Awana led Campbell to an undefeated week and kept the Camels in first-place in the A-Sun standings. On Monday, the Atlantic Sun Conference announced its weekly men’s soccer awards with Brustad and Awana earning Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.
Brustad, a sophomore forward, scored the game-tying goal with less than 10 minutes to play in 1-1 tie at USC Upstate and scored the game-winning goal in the Hatters 1-0 win against ETSU. The Oslo, Norway native led the team in shots in both games and ranks third on Stetson in points. Brustad joins Griffin Gilstrap and Kevin Muz with 11 or more points on the season with four or more goals.
Awana, a senior goalkeeper, posted a career-high 11 saves in a 2-0 loss at No. 2 North Carolina on Tuesday, followed by his second shutout of the year in Saturday's 1-0 victory at Mercer. The Elizabeth City, N.C. native helped the Camels in their first win at Mercer (0-4-1 in previous 5 games) since 1997. With the shutout, the sports management major kept Campbell atop the A-Sun standings.
