Mercer’s Cameron and Petricek Sweep Weekly Awards

MACON, Ga. - In leading the Bears to a pair of victories in Nashville, Tenn., Mercer’s Ian Cameron and Brett Petricek picked up the Atlantic Sun weekly men’s soccer awards, the conference announced Monday.
Cameron, a junior midfielder, led the Bears to two wins last weekend to begin conference play. The native of Glasgow, Scotland found the net twice against Belmont and passed out an assist. The business major leads the Bears in goals scored and points in 2009 and has helped the Bear to their first 2-0-0 conference start since 2004. He shares second in the conference with five goals and ten total points.
Petricek, a freshman goalkeeper, played all 180 minutes on the weekend allowing only one goal and making 10 total saves in the two victories. The native of Woodrige, Ill. picked up a shutout against Lipscomb. On the season, the business management major ranks fourth in the A-Sun in goals-against average (1.30), second in save percentage (.830) and first in saves (51).

Mitchell Cardenas, Campbell (Fr. - M - Spring, Texas - Undeclared) -- Cardenas set up the game-tying goal in Thursday's 2-2 draw at Lipscomb then scored the winner in a 3-1 victory Saturday at Belmont as the Camels turned in an unbeaten week. His 87th-minute free kick at Lipscomb set up Ben Iiames' first career goal that sent the game into extra time. Two days later at Belmont, Cardenas set up Keegan Terry's 14th-minute strike that tied the game at one. He then scored in the 55th minute to put the Camels in front for good. On the year, Cardenas ranks fourth among A-Sun leaders in points (nine) and 5th in goals (three), while rating 3rd in assists (three). His efforts helped CU extend its record in A-Sun regular season games to 26-4-5 since the start of the 2005 season.
Andy Mikeska, Jacksonville (So. - M - Dallas, Texas - Business) -- Mikeska scored two goals and had a game-winning assist in JU's first two conference games. He scored his second goal of the season in the 67th minute against Stetson. Mikeska had the game-tying goal in the 29th minute against Eagles from 20 yards out on a pass by junior forward Nedim Hrustic. He provided the go-ahead assist in the 37th minute on a corner kick to freshman defender Filip Terland who headed the ball in the goal.
