FGCU Takes on Furman in A-Sun Game of the Week
|

MACON, Ga. - FGCU battles Furman in the Atlantic Sun men’s soccer Game of the Week Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Stone Soccer Stadium in Greenville, S.C.
The contest will be the second matchup of the day in the Diadora/Spinx Tournament. The tournament opens with a game between UNF and the College of Charleston. The Eagles are currently receiving votes in the NCAA South Regional Poll after posting a 1-0 win against FIU but then fell by a 1-0 score at home to No. 11 USF on a goal in the 87th minute. FGCU ended the weekend with a road overtime loss to FAU (1-0) in Boca Raton, Fla.
Goalkeeper Matthew Smith leads the Eagles’ defensive efforts, holding a 0.65 goals-against average with 12 saves and one shutout on the season. One of the key matchups of the game should be the FGCU Forwards vs. Furman Defenders. The Eagles only have one goal on the season while Furman has allowed only four. The key for FGCU will be getting shots on net as Furman has a team save percentage of .692 allowing four goals on only 13 shots on goal.
The Paldins have found the net three times this season with three different players. Jordan Howard has come off the bench in two of Furman’s matches this season and scored the lone game-winning goal for the Paldins in 2009.
