MACON, Ga. - The 2008 soccer season may have ended, but the awards keep coming in for recognition off and on the field. A-Sun players and teams were recognized for  play during the regular season earning a spots on the NCAA Division I All-Southeast and All-South Region Team and the Team Academic Award list.

The Atlantic Sun Champion Belmont women's soccer team and runner-up Mercer were recently recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for their excellence in the classroom as well as on the field.

The Team Academic Award was only instituted in 1996 and Belmont has now received the honor five times since the inception. The Bruins have earned the award every year since 2005. This year, Belmont became one of just five schools from the state of Tennessee and one of two from the A-Sun to earn a 2007-08 NSCAA/adidas Women's Team Academic Award. The NSCAA hands the award out to programs with GPAs of 3.0 or higher. The Bears finished the 07-08 season with a 3.54 GPA and the Belmont Bruins finished closed behind with a 3.34 GPA.

On the individual side, sophomore Jessica Rix earned a spot on the All-Region team nod from the NSCAA. Rix, who was named to the Third Team, is the only female player from the A-Sun to receive the honor this year.

Campbell's Richard Jata was selected to second-team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and was joined on the All-South Region teams by three Camels.

Outstanding play throughout the season paid off for two Campbell men, Richard Jata and Stephan Oyuga earned spots on the First-Team All-South Region Team. Teammate Aaron Johnson and Josue Soto received a nod onto the Second Team. Fellow A-Sun players Robert Hodge and Kirk Labusch of Stetson, Jacksonville's Remak Niakan Safi and Stefan Runeman, and Lipscomb's Miguel DaSilva all earned third team honors.

Kennesaw State's senior forward Rachel Baer received another post-season award, earning 2008 NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division I All-Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team accolades. The teams are selected by college coaches from around the United States.
