Johnson Moves up A-Sun Shutout List, Wins POTW

MACON, Ga. - USC Upstate’s David Stanbra closed out his home career with a goal and an assist to earn the Player of the Week while fellow senior Aaron Johnson, from Campbell, moved up the A-Sun record books to garner his seventh Defensive Player of the Week award, the conference office announced on Monday.
Stanbra doubled his goal output for the season when he scored the first goal in Saturday’s match with Mercer. The physical education major from Worcester, England assisted on USC Upstate’s third and final goal as the Spartans defeated the Bears, 3-1, to end their 13-game losing streak. Stranbra’s goal came off of a pass from Alex Garcev and Stanbra hammered a shot past the retreating goalkeeper and into the right side of the goal.
Johnson, a senior from St. Charles, Mo., stretched his shutout streak to three games and his scoreless run to 300 minutes with consecutive blankings on the road of USC Upstate and ETSU as Campbell clinched the A-Sun regular season championship for the second time in four years. In the process, the business administration major moved into a tie with Damin Hall of Centenary (1984-87) for second place on the A-Sun all-time shutouts list with 18. On the season, Johnson has six shutouts (most in the A-Sun) and boasts a 77.9 save percentage (second in the league). In league games, he owns a goals-against average of 0.88, with an .825 save percentage aided by a league-best four shutouts in eight matches.

Miguel DaSilva, Lipscomb (So. - F - Lauderhill, Fla. - Management) -- Miguel scored on a penalty kick and assisted on the second goal as the Bisons beat Stetson 2-0 Friday night. He assisted on the Bisons goal Sunday in a 2-1 loss to FGCU.
Janrai Gravely, Belmont (Jr. - GK - Dallas - History) -- Had seven saves in Belmont's 2-1 victory over Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday that secured a spot for the Bruins in the Atlantic Sun Tournament for the sixth consecutive season.
Will Moorad, Belmont (Fr. - F - Brentwood, Tenn. - Business Administration) -- Scored game-winning goal in Belmont's 2-1 victory against FGCU on Saturday; The win helped secure Belmont's place in the Atlantic Sun Tournament.
A-Sun Weekly Notes
Campbell won its eighth-straight game, while securing its second league regular season trophy in the last four years following Saturday’s 1-0 victory at ETSU. CU won the 2005 A-Sun regular season title, and claimed the 2007 league tournament championship…Campbell will put its perfect 6-0 home record on the line Tuesday night when seventh-ranked North Carolina visits the Eakes Athletic Complex for a 7:00 p.m. kick-off. CU has not dropped a home match since Nov. 7, 2007 when UNC Greensboro defeated the Camels 2-1 at Eakes…The Camels are unbeaten in their last 14 games against A-Sun men’s soccer opponents (12-0-2) dating to a 3-2 setback at Lipscomb on Oct. 13, 2007. The Camels also own the best A-Sun regular season record (24-4-4) of all league members since the start of the 2005 season…Richard Jata provided the lone goal in Saturday’s win at ETSU, his ninth game-winner in three years with the Camels. In the process, Jata moved into a tie for 8th place on the A-Sun all-time game-winning goals list (9). Campbell owns a 16-0-1 record in games when Jata scores since he joined the team in 2006...Aaron Johnson made four saves in the Camel nets while recording his third-straight shutout and sixth of the year on Saturday at ETSU. In so doing, Johnson moved into a tie for second place on the A-Sun career shutouts chart with 18. He has not allowed a goal in his last 300 minutes played.
The Mercer men's soccer team posted a record of 0-1-1 over the weekend, earning a 2-2 draw with ETSU on Thursday and dropping a 3-1 decision at USC Upstate on Saturday...With ETSU's 1-0 loss against Campbell on Saturday, the Bears remain two points ahead of the Buccaneers for the sixth and final spot in November's A-Sun Championship...The Bears have one conference match remaining, as they travel to Campbell this Saturday, while the Bucs travel to Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson before season's end...Mercer missed the A-Sun Championship for the first time in 10 years in 2007...The tie against ETSU marked Mercer's fifth draw of the season, the most by any team in A-Sun history...Bolade Ogunmade netted his team-leading seventh goal of the season against ETSU, giving him six in league play and putting him in a tie for first in the conference-only statistics in both goals and points (12).
