MACON, Ga. - Florida Gulf Coast hosted its first home game in program history against the UNLV Runnin' Rebels and came away with a 2-1 victory, thanks in part to the play in net by Adam Glick. His six saves preserved the victory and helped him win the Defensive Player of the Week award, announced by the conference office on Monday.
Glick, a freshman from Leola, Pa. has been in net for every minute of the Eagles three games and has picked up a pair of wins. He ranks second in the Atlantic Sun Conference in saves per game at 5.0. In the win against UNLV, he recorded six saves while his offense was only able to muster three shots on goal.
Playing in just his third collegiate game, Mercer's Jaime Villacis notched his second game-winning goal inside of a week, depositing the winner against Cal-Riverside on Friday. The freshman from Miami scored both goals in the 2-1 victory, giving him three on the season, on just seven shots. His clutch performance earned him the Player of the Week award for week two.
Villacis is tied with Adam O'Neill atop the A-Sun in points with six and leads the league in goals and game-winning goals. The rest of his Mercer teammates have combined for just one goal. Despite the imbalance, the Bears are off to a 3-1 start thanks to a defense that has allowed just a 0.49 goals-against average.
