DELAND, Fla. - The Stetson men's soccer team ended their remarkable 2006 Atlantic Sun Conference regular season with a 1-0 win over Jacksonville to give the program its first undefeated conference season. It was also Senior Day for seven players who stood in front of the home crowd for the final time before the Atlantic Sun Tournament.
Stetson took the lead in the first half when Victor Webb punched in a deflection in front of the goal at the 28:46 mark for his first score of the season. Then the Hatters back four and keeper Alessandro Barcherini held JU to only two shots on goal to post the team's second shutout of the weekend.
"I couldn't be prouder of all of our guys," said Head Coach Sean Murphy. "They really dug in and worked hard and played for each other."
At the conclusion of Stetson's win that put the team 5-0-2 in the conference, the players doused Murphy with a Gatorade shower.
