MACON, Ga. – Belmont’s Ian Schinelli and Kent Walker provided scoring punch throughout the weekend while Campbell’s Bryce Kenny helped the Camels score a huge upset on their way to earning A-Sun Player of the Week honors.
Schinelli had a hand in all four Belmont goals as the Bruins used a two-match sweep of Jacksonville and UNF to vault into a tie for second place in the league standings. The midfielder set-up teammate Kent Walker for each game-winning goal while icing both contests with goals in the final 10 minutes. A native of Naperville, Ill., Schinelli leads the team in assists and ranks second with his three goals. The junior majors in Accounting
Walker surprised the UNF and JU defenses twice over the weekend, sneaking up from his outside back position to score game-winners in both matches. He also helped anchor a Bruin defense that posted a pair of shutouts over the weekend and have allowed just five goals in their recent 6-1-2 streak. The Cincinnati, Ohio native recorded his first two career goals as well. The defender majors in Exercise Science.
In his first career start and playing appearance, Kenny made nine saves and shutout third-ranked North Carolina in Campbell's 1-0 victory over the Tar Heels in front of 1,481 fans on Tuesday. The freshman then allowed just one goal while making five saves in 110 minutes of a 1-1 draw at league front-runner Gardner-Webb on Saturday. CU's win over UNC matched the program record against a highest-ranked team (UNC was #3 in 1988 when the Camels won 2-1) and kept Campbell's record at home perfect at 6-0-0. The High Point, N.C., native has yet to determine a major.
