BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Willy Guadarrama of Campbell University has been included in the 2006 Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy Watch List for men’s soccer. The list was compiled by a panel of coaches from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
In addition, the junior forward from Cedar Park, Texas, has been named second-team pre-season All-American by College Soccer News. Last year, Guadarrama earned third-team NSCAA All-America and first-team All-South Region honors after leading all Division I players in goals scored and points per game.
The Austin United Capitals club product and Cedar Park High School graduate notched 21 goals in 20 outings last year for Campbell, the 2005 Atlantic Sun Conference regular season champion.
The 2005 A-Sun Player of the Year is one of nine juniors on the Hermann Trophy Watch list. Thirteen others are seniors, while three sophomores are included.
The Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy honors the top male and female Division I college soccer players in the United States. The award is college soccer’s version of the Heisman Trophy and represents the highest level of individual achievement in the sport. Over the years, the award has honored some of the biggest names in U.S. soccer. Kristine Lilly, Mia Hamm, Shannon MacMillan, Claudio Reyna, Alexi Lalas and Tony Meola are just a few of the players who won the award prior to achieving success on the international stage.
