Betts Named Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete for Second Time

MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun Conference honored Mercer's Will Betts as the 2012 Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year to highlight the league’s Academic All-Conference team. It marks the second-straight season in which Betts has claimed the award.

Betts owns a 3.98 cumulative GPA as a Finance Major at Mercer now in his senior season with the Bears. The Brenham, Texas native has four goals on the season to go along with two assists, which has helped the Bears to an 11-6-1 record this season. A 2011 Capital One Academic All-District honoree, Betts has started in 72 contests in his career, which ranks eighth most in A-Sun history. His 32 career points ranks fourth among active student-athletes.

The A-Sun introduced the new sport-by-sport Academic All-Conference teams in the 2011-12 academic year to recognize student-athletes who embody the conference’s mission of Building Winners for Life. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or better and participated in at least half of their team’s games.
