DeLand, Fla. - Stetson sophomore goalkeeper Andreas Schnabl (Blaichach, Germany) was named Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week for men's soccer, the conference office announced Monday. Schnabl moved into a tie for third place on the Stetson career list with his eighth career shutout as the Hatters beat A-Sun rival Mercer 1-0 in overtime Sunday evening. This is the first such award of Schnabl's career.

Schnabl, a 2010 Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team and All-Tournament Team honoree, recorded a clean sheet for the third time in 2011 and the eighth time overall, moving past former teammate Logan Potter and into a third place tie with Tim Riek '02 for career shutouts at Stetson. Kevin Johnson '93 is second with 10 shutouts while Ed Funcheon '89 holds the record with 11; just midway through his sophomore year the program record appears extremely attainable for Schnabl. He made two saves in the win over Mercer and denied several more long crosses and services by the Bears in a driving rainstorm.

"This is an extremely well-deserved honor for Andreas," Hatters Head Coach T. Logan Fleck said. "In Sunday's match, Mercer floated numerous scoring chances in the air towards our goal but he commanded his 18-yard box like we know he can. Andreas is a key ingredient to our success as a team going forward."

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Coming off goals in consecutive games, senior Darko Karamatic was named the Atlantic Sun Conference’s “Player of the Week,” the league announced on Monday.

Karamatic netted his first two goals of the season to help the Dolphins to wins over A-Sun foes USC Upstate and ETSU. The midfielder has two goals and one assist for five points in 12 games this season (seven starts).

“I am very happy for Darko,” JU coach Mike Johnson said. “He has picked up his game since we started conference play. He got us going on Friday for the win versus Upstate and scored a fantastic equalizer against ETSU. I hope he will keep getting sharper as we move forward in conference play.”

Karamatic opened the scoring just 4:19 into the Dolphins contest versus Upstate, taking Nick Rodriguez’s feed and blasting a shot past Spartans goalkeeper Jason McCabe for the game-winning goal in a 3-0 victory.

Two days later against the Bucs, Karamatic erased a 1-0 JU deficit when he made an impressive individual move, dribbling around one defender near the top-left side of the box before kicking a low shot past ETSU goalkeeper Ryan Coulter to tie the score in the 50th minute. The Dolphins went on to post a 2-1 victory.
