Tampa, Fla. -- USF shut out Stetson 3-0 in the 2005 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Tournament First Round Friday night in front of 1,578 fans at the USF Soccer Stadium.
“I’m proud of our accomplishments this season and the way our boys have battled and fought,” said head coach Sean Murpy. “It was an excellent effort by our players to make it to this tournament for the first time. So I hope now they have gotten the taste of it and it will only motivate them more in the future.”
The Bulls took the lead at 23:38 when Kevon Neaves scored on a free kick from just outside of the goal area. Previously USF had not scored first in a game since Oct.15 in 1-0 win against St. John’s.
The Hatters best chance to score in the first half came at 12:35 when Alex Minton (Buckingshire, England) took free kick that hit the right side of the net.
