Macon, Ga. – Campbell’s Willy Guadarrama and Florida Atlantic’s Anders Granstad each earned Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week honors for the second time this season as announced by the league office.
Guadarrama set a school record for most goals scored in an Atlantic Sun game when he tallied a career-high five goals in a 7-0 victory over Stetson on Thursday. Guadarrama took over the national goal-scoring lead with 15 strikes through 10 matches. He scored his first goal just 26 seconds into the contest, had a hat trick by the 32nd minute, and four in the opening half. His five-goal output is also the most in a Division I match this season. Guadarrama matched the highest scoring effort by a Campbell player since CU joined the NCAA Division I ranks in 1977. David Doyle twice scored five times in a game during the 1986 season, against Winthrop and Augusta.
With 33 points on 15 goals and three assists through 10 games, the Cedar Park, Texas native has produced Campbell’s highest-scoring season since Pasi Kinturi finished the 1996 campaign with 37 points on 13 goals and 11 assists in 20 matches.
Granstad made five saves, two of which were sprawling, spectacular grabs late in the second half in the Owls 2-1 double-overtime victory over Jacksonville. The Dolphins forced overtime with just one second remaining on the scoreboard. He was pressured for most of the second half, but stood his ground and led the Owls to victory. The Oslo, Norway native ranks second in the A-Sun with three shutouts.
