UNF, WIU Play to Scoreless Tie

Date Posted: 8/30/2005

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida men's soccer team and Webber International battled for 90 minutes, but neither team was able to put the ball in the net on Tuesday night at the UNF Soccer Field as the teams played to a scoreless tie in the Ospreys' final exhibition match of the preseason.

UNF head coach Ray Bunch was pleased with the effort his squad showed.

"I thought our guys played hard the entire match," Bunch said. "I was pleased with their fitness and the way they battled. You would like to come away with a win, but I was pleased with the effort."

The Ospreys outshot the Warriors 12-6, including a 7-5 margin in the first half.

"We played much better in the second half," Bunch said. "We had a lot of chances in the first half, but we made too many silly mistakes. We had seven shots, but only two of them were on goal. We've got to take some more chances."

UNF sophomore goalkeeper Michael Frost tallied four saves to help preserve the tie.

The Ospreys' offensive attack was led by senior forward Terry Peak and sophomore forward Martin Schuhte. Both players recorded three shots, including a shot on goal.

Sophomore forward Martin Pettersson and sophomore midfielder Mark Sergio each tallied two shots. Pettersson also recorded a shot on goal.

The Ospreys will open the regular season on Saturday when they travel to Irvine, Calif., to take part in the University of California-Irvine Kickoff Tournament. UNF will face tournament-host UC-Irvine in the first round of the tournament. That match is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. ET.
