CLEMSON‚ S.C. – December 3‚ 2005 – The Kennesaw State men’s track and field program started its first indoor season at the Division I level with a respectable showing at the Clemson opener last weekend.

The Owls were paced by their distance runners. Daniel Gormley and Jason Waters finished 1−2 in the 5000m run with times of 15:25.53 and 15:26.18‚ respectively. Teammate Michael Johnson finished fourth in the same event in the time of 16:18.11.

“I was pleased with the way we were able to showcase some of our strengths early on in the season‚” said head coach Don McGarey. “I am confident this meet will help us get better as we progress in our first year of Division I competition.”

Lukasz Skrzypiec finished just four seconds behind Clemson’s Itay Magidi to take second place in the 3000m run with a time of 9:00.57. Piotr Kaszkur finished just behind Skrzypiec to place third with a time of 9:06.98. The Owls distance medley relay team consisting of Skrzypiec‚ David Shield‚ Scott Phillips and Matthew Coy put forth a strong effort to earn fourth in a time of 10:46.53.

The Owls will break for the winter holidays before returning to the track at the University of North Carolina Opener in Chapel Hill on January 16.
