MACON, Ga. - The second Atlantic Sun Men's Indoor Track & Field Weekly Awards went to Northern Kentucky's Brendan Chwalek and Lipsomb's Houston Ward, announced Wednesday by the league office.
Chwalek set the Norse record in the 3,000-meter run by 0.66 seconds, while Ward captured two top-three finishes at the Ed Temple Classic.
TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Brendan Chwalek, Northern Kentucky (Jr. – Middle Distance – Louisville, Ky.)
- First Career Track Athlete of the Week award
- Took first place at the Golden Flash Gala in the 3,000-meter run
- Set a NKU record in the event with time of 8:34.18
- Bested the previous record by 0.66 second
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Tucker Peabody (Jr., Lipscomb) – Placed second in the 200m dash with time of 21.75 seconds
FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Houston Ward, Lipscomb (So. – Throws – Portland, Texas – Accounting)
- First Career Indoor Field Athlete of the Week award
- Claimed two top-three finishes at the Ed Temple Classic
- Toss of 14.44m in weight throw earned second place
- Added third-place finish in shot put with distance of 14.4m
