BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Campbell Camels moved to within 18 holes from a second A-Sun Men's Golf Championship, as they shot a two-under 286, to hold a seven-shot advantage on last year's champion, UNF after two rounds of play from The Creek Course at Keith Hill Country Club.

The Camels weathered early charges from several teams to maintain their spot atop the leaderboard. For the second straight round, freshman Vaita Guillaume posted a three-under, 69. He shares the individual lead with Kennesaw State’s Michael Tulacz. After a one-under front nine, Guillaume rattled off consecutive birdies on holes 12, 13 and 14. After two bogeys, he closed his day with a birdie on the finishing hole, the par-5 18th. Matt Moot backed up an opening round 70 with a one-under 71 to sit three back of the leaders and Mitch Gray posted a one-over, 73. He is even par after two rounds.

UNF started the round on fire, at one point getting as low as 10-under for the day and for the championship before giving back a total of six strokes, finishing a four-under, seven back of Campbell. The five Ospreys collected 13 birdies on the front nine while only one player, Joe Byun, finished with a better second nine, playing the last nine holes in even par, highlighted by an eagle on the 18th hole. Jeff Dennis, playing with Guillaume and Tulacz, matched his competitors with a three-under, 69. He trails the two by a single shot at five-under. The trio will again be in the days final group, teeing off the first hole at 9:21 a.m. Kevin Aylwin birdied his first three holes en route to a two-under, 70, and Chris Kennedy birdied three of his first holes, also carding a 70.

The Owls’ Tulacz and Jeff Karlsson each registered 69’s as the Owls, one day after shooting one-over as a team shot a one-under to return to even par and in third place, 11 in back of the Camels. FGCU improved by a stroke, led by Daniel Mazziotta’s 69, to improve to a fourth place showing. Mercer posted the top team score of the second day, combining to shoot a six-under, 282, to move up to fifth from ninth. Bill Jones III recorded one of the eight three-under 69’s The Creek Course yielded on the day, moving up to 12th place at one-under, 143. His scoring teammates, Andres Pumariega (two-under, 70), Ryan Blackburn (one-under, 71) and Matt Tribby (even-par, 72), all beat or matched par on the day.

Belmont slide to sixth after shooting a six-over, 294 on the day. First-round leader Scott O’Brien, who had his score as low as seven-under for the tournament, finished round two at four-under, after shooting a one-over, 73. ETSU could not make a major move, improving only one spot to seventh after shooting a one-over, 289. Michael Stewart shot the low round of the day for the Buccaneers with a two-under, 70.

USC Upstate and Jacksonville share eighth place with Stetson in 10th followed by Lipscomb. The Spartans’ Michael Lawrence turned in his second round of two-under 70 to sit in a tie for fourth place.
