On Tuesday, Belmont's and Campbell's men's golf programs picked up team titles as the Bruins won the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate and the Camels captured the Charleston Southern Spring Kick-off.

Three Fighting Camels finished among the top 17 individuals, including freshman Vaita Guillaume, who tied for fifth. The tournament win was Campbell’s first of the 2008-09 campaign. CU finished as runner-up at both the Old Dominion Seascape and William & Mary First Market Bank tournaments.

Campbell (290-295-307—892) and the College of Charleston (285-309-298—892) both finished the 54-hole event at 892 strokes, 10 better than third-place Bethune-Cookman, before the Camels won on the first extra hole.

Bethune-Cookman teammates Daniel Venema (71-70-72—213) and Andy Heesom (67-77-73—217) finished one-two in the individual standings. Guillaume produced his third top-10 finish in the last four outings by carding a 77 on Tuesday and tying for fifth place.

Camel sophomore Matt Moot earned his first top-10 showing of the season. His final-round 75 lifted the Johnstown, Pa., native into a tie for 10th place at 225 strokes (77-73-75). Sophomore Zak Drescher tied for 17th place (73-73-82—228), while senior Isak Pettersen tied for 24th (73-76-81—230).

The Belmont men’s golf team maintained their steady play from Monday in Tuesday’s final round to capture the team championship at the Big Blue Intercollegiate hosted by Tennessee State at the Hermitage Golf Course in Hermitage, Tennessee. It was the program’s eight team title overall in the Division I era and first since April of 2006 when they won their own Belmont Intercollegiate.

In Monday’s final round, the Bruins shot an even par round of 288 for a 54-hole total of 856 to win the title by four shots over second place Murray State. Tennessee Tech and UT-Martin finished in third place at 870. Their 856 score was fourth lowest in the program’s Division I era and the lowest score shot by a Belmont team since the 2006-2007 season.

Belmont saw all five of its golfers finish among the top-25, with two in the top-five. Senior Danny Amundson shot a two under par 70 on Tuesday to finish in third place with a score of 212. It was his second top-five finish of the season. Junior Scott O’Brien placed one spot behind Amundson in fourth after shooting a 70 as well to finish at 213. It was O’Brien’s first top-five of the 2008-09.
