UNF Pair Advances to U.S. Amateur Match Play

PINEHURST, N.C. - University of North Florida golfer J.C. Horne closed strong at the U.S. Amateur on Tuesday to earn a spot in the 64 player field that will compete in match plat at Pinehurst resort and Country Club.
Horne shot an even-par 70 on Pinehurst No. 4 to finish tied for 33rd.
The up and coming junior recorded four birdies on the day, including three on the back nine. Through two rounds of play, Horne had seven birdies. He opened play with a 3-over-par 73 on Monday on Pinehurst No. 2, ending the day with a birdie on the 18th hole.
Horne will be back on Pinehurst No. 2 Wednesday for the first round of match play at 12:30 p.m to take on Canada native Graham Hill. What started out as a field of more than 300 golfers has been narrowed to 64, with players squaring off in single-elimination matches.
Former Osprey Michael O'Neal, who graduated this summer, also made the field of 64 at the Amateur. He will face Jacob Burger, from Orangeburg, S.C. Should the two win out, the former teammates could meet in the semifinals .
Kevin Aylwin, the third UNF representative in the field failed to qualify. ETSU incoming freshman Devin Komline, Mercer's Matt Tribby and Stetson's Tommy Parker also failed to advance to the match play.
