Date Posted: 7/15/2008

NORMAN, Okla. - Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars for Divisions I and II have been announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America and three A-Sun student athletes Player of the Year Gareth Shaw from ETSU, Belmont's Danny Amundson and Mercer's Andrew An received recognition.

Shaw earned his second straight Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar award, becoming the first ever ETSU player to be named to that list two years in a row. Shaw, who enjoyed his own successes on the course with an All-America selection, an Atlantic Sun individual championship, and a conference player of the year award, reached several impressive criteria to receive the award.

Amundson, a rising senior served as team captain for the Bruins this past year and delivered consistent performance. With six Top 20 and two Top 10 finishes, Amundson led Belmont in scoring average for a second straight season (74.33).

The left-hander placed T-6 at the Murray State University Spring Invitational and T-10 at the Atlantic Sun Championship. He career-best finish in T-2 at the 2007 Argonaut Invitational hosted by West Florida.

A four-time Atlantic Sun All-Academic honoree, Amundson was a finalist for the 2008 Athletics Directors' Character Award and is recipient of the Belmont University Glover Accounting Scholarship.

An recently graduated with a degree in accounting and was also a catalyst for the men's golf squad. The Richmond Hill, Ontario native won his first collegiate event this season when he took home individual medalist honors at the Larry Nelson Collegiate hosted by Kennesaw State.

He was second on the team during the 2007-08 campaign with a 75.5 stroke average and posted a season-best 69 at the USA Spring Classic. During his time at Mercer, An also served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

A total of 96 players earned the honor in Division I. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

The award is overseen by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
