Four A-Sun Individuals, ETSU Land in NCAA Field

Date Posted: 5/7/2007

Macon, Ga. – The post-season fate for the ETSU men’s golf program was handed out Monday as the NCAA released its regional pairings, tabbing the Buccaneers the West Region’s No.5 seed for the event set to take place on May 17-19 in Tempe, Ariz.

ETSU earned an automatic bid into the event following its first Atlantic Sun Conference championship, and make their second appearance in the NCAA Regional in as many seasons as part of the A-Sun. The Bucs are ranked No. 14 in the nation as they enter post-season play and were placed behind Stanford, UCLA, UNLV and Southern California in the West Region.

Several individuals also learned that their season was being extended as Duncan Stewart (JU), Russell Knox (JU), Fredric Sundberg (Cam) and Jeff Dennis (UNF) all earned at-large passes to the East Regional in Alpharetta, Ga.

Three regional tournaments will be played May 17-19 with 10 teams and two individuals, not on advancing teams, will move on from each regional to the championship finals to be played May 30-June 2 at the Gold Course at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Virginia.

The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
