Macon, Ga. -- After earning medalist honors in both events he participated
in and capturing the nation's No. 1 ranking, ETSU's Rhys Davies has been named
the Atlantic Sun's Golfer of the Month for March, league officials announced
today.
Davies, a senior from Bridgend, Wales, recorded rounds of 73, 68 and 69 (210,
-6) at the Seminole Intercollegiate and carded a 70, 65 and 71 (206, -10) at
the General Hackler Invitational to earn individual championships at each event.
His two titles during the Month of March improves his ETSU record for most titles
to 10.
Along with earning two titles, the two-time, first-team All-American was tabbed
the best in the nation by the Golfweek/Sagarin individual rankings.
Davies was also honored with a similar honor on Monday when the Southern Golf
Association named him its National Amateur of the Month for March.
The honor is the eighth of his career since ETSU joined the Atlantic Sun in
2005. His eight Golfer of the Month awards is a conference-most and and his
honor this month marks the second consecutive season that Davies has earned
the honor four separate times.
The Atlantic Sun Golfer of the Month is announced on Thursday during the first
full week of the month.
The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and
Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
