The TPC at Sawgrass Set for 2010 JU Invitational

The JU men’s golf team will begin its spring season in style as they host the 2010 JU Invitational hosted by Mark McCumber, starting with 36 holes on Monday.

The 54-hole event begins with a shotgun start on Monday, with 15 teams vying for the title on the PLAYERS Stadium Course at the TPC at Sawgrass. Live hole-by-hole scoring will be provided through, with live video coverage of every shot on the world-famous 17th hole.

In the inaugural event in 2009, JU took home third place behind champion Lamar and runner-up Kentucky to kickoff a solid spring season. The Dolphins are looking to use this year’s event as a jumping off point for another strong spring.

“I think our guys are ready to go and play some good golf,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. “One of things I’m looking at our guys to do is worry about the process more than the results. If we do that, then everything else will take care of itself.”

JU will be facing three teams ranked in the top 50 and six teams ranked inside the top 100, including #28 Clemson, #39 Wake Forest and #44 East Tennessee State – a perennial power in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

“The field that we have for this year’s event is tremendous and is going to be a great opportunity to see how we stack up against some of the best teams in the country,” Blackburn said.

Leading the Dolphins will be Bobby Fredeking. The sophomore from Ponte Vedra led JU in stroke average at 73.53, posting four top 20 finishes in five events. Of his 10 rounds thus far, seven have been at par or better.

The 15-team event begins on Monday morning with two rounds scheduled to begin via a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The tournament will conclude on Tuesday with 18 holes, starting with tee times at 8 a.m.
