JU Falls Back to a Tie for 14th at the NCAA East Regional

Date Posted: 5/19/2006

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Jacksonville men's golf team slid back to a tie for 14th place after posting a 17-over par 305 amid difficult scoring conditions that saw only one team shoot par at the Lake Nona Country Club in the second round on Friday.

Russell Knox carded a two-over par 74 to lead the scoring for JU to finish the first 36 holes at three-over par and in a tie for 19th place.

The Dolphins sit at 26-over par after two rounds, 10 shots back of UCLA and Southern Cal - the two teams tied for ninth and the final spots for the national championship.

"The conditions were tough today and they were very slippery yesterday afternoon," said JU head coach Jim Taketa. "The pin positions were very tough today. You couldn't miss on the wrong side of the hole and that cost us a lot of strokes today."
