Date Posted: 10/6/2005
Macon, Ga. – After one of the most successful Septembers in recent A-Sun golf history, ETSU’s Rhys Davies earned Atlantic Sun Golfer of the Month Honors as announced by the league office.
Davies won the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate, capturing his school record sixth individual title. The Bridend, Wales native got stronger as the tournament went on finishing with a final round 68 to claim the co-championship following a deadlocked four-hole playoff with two other golfers. The 10th-ranked Buccaneers finished fourth overall in a field that featured six top-25 teams and three top-15 players. Davies is currently ranked fifth in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. The junior is a Sports Management major.
Overall, four A-Sun men’s golfers captured team titles in September as Cody Hale (Lipscomb – EKU Colonel Classic), Jeff Lanier (Belmont – Buffalo Rock Southern Showdown) and Fredric Sundberg (Campbell – Towson Invitational) each took home medallist honors.
The Atlantic Sun Conference hands out Golfer of the Month awards on the first Thursday of every month during the 2005-06 campaign.
The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
