Kennesaw State Sweeps Mercer-Atlanta Invitational

Date Posted: 9/8/2007

ATLANTA - Kennesaw State was led to victory by Sophomore Peikko Solla on Saturday morning as the men's cross country team finished with seven Owls in the top ten at the Mercer Atlanta Invitational.

The Owls (2-3-4-5-7) looked strong as they easily handled the eight team field with 16 points. Mercer finished second with 73 points, while Valdosta State finished third with 82 points.

"We were just one runner away from having a perfect score,"said head coach Stan Sims. "Still today's performance is what I expected from our men and they delivered. Peikko (Solla) is having a great season and our freshmen runners keep getting better."

In the women's race, Kennesaw State junior Erin Sutton won her second straight race of the 2007 season on Saturday as the Kennesaw State women's cross country team swept the top four at the Mercer Atlanta Invitational.

The Owls (1-2-3-4-6) once again dominated their competition as they out paced the 11 team field with an almost perfect 16 points. Mercer finished second with 49 points and Agnes Scott College came in third with 101 points.

"Our women had an amazing day," said Sims. "The ladies are doing everything right. They work hard everyday at practice and its showing."
