Macon, Ga. – Belmont retained the top spot in the second of five Atlantic Sun Conference men’s cross country polls.
The Bruins captured six of 11 possible first place votes on their way to accumulating 113 total points. Despite remaining atop the poll, Belmont’s saw their lead narrow as newcomer Kennesaw State racked up four first place votes and 105 total points, an improvement of 11 points since the season’s first rating. Campbell collected the final first place vote to stand third with 94 points while ETSU (88 points) and UNF (78 points) rounded out the top-5.
Belmont is the three-time defending league champion and is fresh off a second place showing at the Chattanooga Opener. The Bruins are currently ranked eighth in the NCAA South Region, the only A-Sun school to break into the rankings. Belmont will take this weekend off before returning to action at the Greater Louisville Classic in two weeks. Meanwhile, seven other A-Sun schools will be competing this weekend, including three of the four Florida schools at the 2005 FSU Invitational.
The Cross Country poll serves as the conference standings and is announced on the 1st and 15th of the month during the season. The poll consists of votes from all 11 head coaches.
The Atlantic Sun Cross Country Championship will be held Saturday, October 29, 2005. Campbell University will serve as host.
