Belmont's Andy Wicke Earns Postgraduate Scholarship

MACON, Ga. - Belmont basketball captain, Andy Wicke, was awarded the Atlantic Sun Conference Postgraduate Scholarship as voted on by the Faculty Athletic Representatives, the conference announced Monday.

The five-time Atlantic Sun Coneference All-Academic honoree plans to attend the University of Louisville Dental School in the fall. The environmental studies major posted a 3.74 GPA and a 3.73 within his major, to earn a spot on the Dean List. The 6-2 shooting guard garnered the 2009 Belmont University Presidential Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor, awarded to a student-athlete on behalf of Belmont President Dr. Robert C. Fischer.

The Hendersonville, Tenn., native also earned a 2009 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. Wicke was one of only two NCAA Division-I men's basketball players chosen to receive a postgraduate scholarship. He notched spots on several academic teams including 2009 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award All-America Team, 2009 NACDA Division I-AAA Scholar-Athlete Team, 2009 CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team and All-America Third Team.

On the court, Wicke led the Bruins to four postseason appearances including three NCAA bids. He is second in the A-Sun I made three-point field goals with 303 and is sixth on Belmont's NCAA era scoring list with 1,236 points. In 2009, he established a new Belmont single-season record for minutes played (1,056) and steals (70). The guard earned 2008 Preseason All-Atlantic Sun Second Team honors as well as 2007 All-Tournament team and 2006 All-Freshman team. Wicke was apart of 88 victories, three conference championships and one regular-season title.
