Belmont Opens in NIT Season Tip-Off -The Tennessean

Belmont is set to open the 2006-07 basketball season in the newly formatted NIT Season Tip-Off and will face UNC-Wilmington on Nov. 13 at the Gaylord Entertainment Center. Tennessee and Fordham will play in the other first-round game at the GEC.

The two winners will play on Nov. 14, with the two losers playing that night in a consolation game.

For the first time, the 16-team preseason tournament is being spread out to four neutral sites around the country instead of the teams playing at campus locales. The four teams advancing will meet up in New York City for the semifinals and championship game on Nov. 22 and 24.

In addition to Nashville, the other three host cities for the first- and second-round games this year are Indianapolis, Charlotte, N.C., and Spokane, Wash. Indiana will be the anchor team in Indianapolis, North Carolina the anchor team in Charlotte and Gonzaga the anchor team in Spokane.
