The regular season title and the top seed in the upcoming General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Championship hang in the balance this weekend when ETSU makes a swing through the Music City. Lipscomb plans a less-than warm welcome for ETSU as the Bisons are tied with Belmont atop the league standings and hold a slim one game lead over three other teams. Three front-runners for A-Sun Player of the Year will be showcased in the game as the league’s top scorer Tim Smith is challeneged by Lipscomb’s dynamic duo of Brian Fisk and Eddie Ard.

NCAA'S BEST RACE
Five teams stand within one game of the league lead and have legitimate shots
at claiming the regular season title along with the top seed at the 2006
General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Championship. Music City rivals Belmont
and Lipscomb hold a tenuous one-game lead atop the standings over ETSU, Florida
Atlantic and Gardner-Webb. Power conferences Big 10 (five teams within 1.5 games),
Missouri Valley (five teams within 2 games) and Pac-10 (five teams within 1.5
games) each feature tight races as well.
FILL 'ER UP
Three A-Sun schools rank in the top-10 nationally in scoring led by the high-flying
Campbell Fighting Camels who average 83.7 points per game. ETSU (5th - 83.5)
and Belmont (9th - 81.5) join Campbell among the top scoring teams in the NCAA.
No other conference has as many teams in the top-10 and only the ACC claims
three in the top-20 nationally.
HOT, HOT, HOT
Belmont, Gardner-Webb and Stetson have each posted 7-1 marks in the second half
of the conference season. Both the Runnin’ Bulldogs and the Hatters have won
nine of their last 10 games.
PILING UP THE WINS
A-Sun teams have posted nine 20-win seasons in the last three years. Only the
Missouri Valley Conference can boast more 20-win seasons from their members
among NCAA I-AAA conferences. Runs by Lipscomb, ETSU, Gardner-Webb and Belmont
during the conclusion of the regular season and at the A-Sun Championship could
add to the 20-win seasons.
