MACON, Ga. - The Atlantic Sun Conference and ESPN are teaming up to deliver exclusive basketball, baseball and softball content in 2013 on its live multi-screen sports network, ESPN3, and via WatchESPN.
Accessing favorite live sports and shows from ESPN is now easier than ever with WatchESPN. WatchESPN brings fans 24/7 live programming from their favorite ESPN networks on the computer, smartphone, and tablet.
A total of 22 live conference basketball games will be distributed in 2012-13, along with the addition of the final games of the A-Sun Baseball and Softball Championships. The addition of games on ESPN3 is a part of ESPN’s current five-year deal with the Atlantic Sun, which continues through the 2013-14 season.
“We are excited that our relationship with ESPN is creating greater exposure for the Atlantic Sun Conference brand,” said Commissioner Ted Gumbart. “This is another example of how our institutions and our student-athletes continue to receive well-deserved recognition. Plus, it adds to the fan experience as they can now follow the A-Sun on many different vehicles.”
ESPN3 will be the home of the conference’s women’s basketball package, which highlights each A-Sun institution through five regular season games and all of the 2013 General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Basketball Championship quarterfinal contests. A seven-game regular season men’s package, in addition to men’s quarterfinal action, is part of the exclusive agreement.
Along with basketball, exclusive content including baseball and softball will also be carried on ESPN3. Last season the championship games of the A-Sun Baseball and Softball Championships were included for the first time, and are a part of the exclusive content schedule for this season.
“Continuing our relationship with the Atlantic Sun Conference for exclusive events on ESPN3 is one of the many ways we’re serving sports fans with games that may otherwise not be seen on television, “ said Damon Phillips, Vice President of ESPN3 and WatchESPN. “Additionally, WatchESPN delivers live access to ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN Goal Line/Buzzer Beater across all screens wherever fans are.”
Each A-Sun member institution is included in the regular season schedule, and includes double-headers of Northern Kentucky at North Florida, Mercer at Kennesaw State, Lipscomb at Stetson, USC Upstate at FGCU and ETSU at Jacksonville.
The Atlantic Sun and ESPN have a long-standing relationship that first began with the airing of the conference’s tournament title game back in 1989. For the fifth season, all of the conference’s CSS/A-Sun Friday Night Game of the Week contests will be available on the ESPN Full Court package and on ESPN3.
Live events from ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN3 and ESPN Goal Line/Buzzer Beater are available through WatchESPN at no additional cost to fans who receive their video subscription from Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks, Comcast Xfinity TV, Verizon FiOS TV or Midcontinent Communications.
Access to live programming on ESPN3 through WatchESPN is also available at no additional cost to fans that receive their Internet subscription from an affiliated provider. A complete list of participating providers is available at WatchESPN.com.
