Sobotka Picks Up Second Freshman All-America Honor

DALLAS – DALLAS – USC Upstate relief pitcher Chad Sobotka was named to the 2012 NCBWA Freshman All-American Team on Monday - his second such honor of the season.

Sobotka made 25 appearances this season, while collecting 12 saves to rank second in the Atlantic Sun. The Spartan righty finished his rookie campaign with a 3-0 record and a 1.72 ERA, fanning 34 batters and walking 16 in 31.1 innings. He boasts an opposing batting average of .196.

Also this season, the Upstate closer was an A-Sun All-Freshman selection and was named to the Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List by the National College Baseball Writers Association and landed on the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team. Sobotka earned six key saves in conference wins over Lipscomb (2), North Florida, East Tennessee State, Jacksonville and Kennesaw State to help the Spartans stay at the top of the league standings throughout the year.
